The Northern Light Cinema Opens Its Doors in Stretford Town Centre
The Northern Light Cinema will officially open in Stretford on Friday 20th March, bringing a fresh cultural destination to the heart of the town centre.
Stretford town centre is set to welcome independent street food specialists GRUB this summer as planning has been submitted for a new town centre community destination. GRUB Stretford will be a vibrant community hotspot in the heart of the town centre.
GRUB will bring their signature mix of independent street food, kitchen takeovers, and a brilliant event schedule with everything from neighbourhood socials and town fairs to match day warm ups and beer festivals. The World Cup will take centre stage this summer, bringing together the best food and drink right to Stretford’s door step.
GRUB Stretford will be taking over the space for an 18 month residency and opening Tuesday to Sunday. The ambition is to be a place where all of the Stretford community can come together with activity taking over the 6,000 sq ft space on the ground floor of the multi-storey car park and spilling onto Sir Tony Lloyd Square. By day the 300 capacity venue will be home to a bakery, coffee shop and popup bottle store before transforming into a larger-scale evening destination with several independent street food traders and live entertainment from Thursday- Sunday.
Known across Manchester for championing independent traders and creating inclusive, community-led experiences, GRUB has built a strong reputation for bringing together food, culture and grassroots creativity through some of the city’s most popular events and venues. GRUB Stretford is the brand’s first venture in Trafford and will complement the newly opened independent cinema and growing mix of independent hospitality, leisure and retail businesses.
Chris Houghton, Head of Commercial at Bruntwood said:
“We are excited to be bringing a new community space by GRUB to Stretford town centre. Our joint ambition is to create a brilliant new hub of independent street food, activity and culture in the heart of the town centre. It will mark a significant moment in the evolution of Stretford as we continue creating a vibrant destination for the whole community to enjoy.”
Jason Bailey, Director of GRUB added:
“We’re really excited to step outside of the city centre and into Stretford. It’s somewhere we’ve had our eye on for a while, so this feels like a brilliant opportunity to bring what GRUB does best into a new neighbourhood. The ambition is to create a true community hub and a real destination for local people, somewhere that champions independents, supports grassroots culture and adds long term energy to the town centre.”
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration said:
"Subject to planning permission, we will be delighted to welcome Grub to Stretford as another jewel in the crown of the town's revamped shopping and leisure offer. This venture is set to really compliment the growing eating, drinking and social scene in the area, and give people an extra reason to come and spend time here."
Home to a range of independent and national brands, Stretford town centre comprises the newly opened King Street, Pinnington Lane and Sir Tony Lloyd Square, brand new public realm and redeveloped multi-storey carpark, which is firmly establishing itself as a thriving hub of community activity, events and entertainment.
The above is subject to planning approval.
